Ground slipped off Vaanya's feet when her skin felt Abhir's blood.
*Blood splash twice*
And it was the second time when a horrifying gunshot was heard. Bullet piercing through Abhir's stomach, and another few drops painting Vaanya's face with his blood.
*Blood splash thrice*
And the last one, finally, on his shoulder. A little more downwards, on the right, and it would have straight away lacerated his heart.
Abhir's eyes never left Vaanya's. But he couldn't see her tears for the first time in his life, because his own vision was already blurred by tears after those three shots.
Abhir somehow managed to stand for a few seconds, but when his shoulder felt unhinged by the joints, all his energy, consciousness, and senses were drained out.
It felt like... Death.
But what scared him more was, separation. Separation with Vaanya. It was just sometime ago when he could finally hear her say I love you to him. After a long, long wait, he felt blessed to hear those three words.
The day when she confessed to him out of the blue. The moment when she said, "I too love you, Abhir," for the first time to him.
Just how priceless is that moment, only he knows that. Only he knows, how much has he been waiting to hear her say those words to him. All their sweetest moments were running on his mind.
But will it be so short lived? That after hearing her say I love you, he'll die?
Is it the end to their blooming love? Just how fair is that?
Even Vivaan got to live with her for more than five years. Then why is it him? Why can't he live with his wife?
Abhir tried to utter to the universe that is supposed to hear your wishes, if they're made with all your heart. But why did everything feel so silent and like a curse today?
Why was the universe not hearing him?
He felt the weakest. That he couldn't even cover a small distance of a few inches to reach Vaanya, and hold her in his arms.
Abhir couldn't look anywhere but her eyes.
Still standing, trying to wake up his leg to move forward to her, to hug her, one last time if it is. But he couldn't.
It all felt tragically devastating, that he couldn't even clearly see his wife's face for the last time, because of the tears in his eyes, before he fell on the ground when he tried to walk.
He falls straight on his chest, perhaps breaking his rib cage into pieces.
But all he cared was to just see her face once before he closes his eyes. Just once.
"Va- va- Vaany-" trying to speak more, and there he spilled more blood on the ground.
With his fine hand, he lifts his right arm up in her direction without knowing, that she was frozen on her spot.
Vaanya had no senses left in her body. No emotions, no feelings. This all felt way too unreal to happen in such a happy moment.
Her ears were ringing with a tinnitus sounds. All blank, and no visionary thoughts in her brain right now. It all felt like a dream, maybe? She so wished it was a dream. A bad dream.
Like- they were just going to hug each other. Vaanya was about to relax in his hug. Then what happened? What did she even see?
Blood? Of him?
She was anonymously stunned at the situation. And in that stunned position, when she saw her husband falling straight on his chest, on the ground, her eyes wandered behind where he was standing.
And what she saw next, filled her heart with rage, and loathe. For one and only.
Vivaan.
But he wasn't alone. Rather he was holding the gun in Harsh's hands.
The pistol was in Harsh's hands, but the controller was... Vivaan. And with a minimal of three seconds eye contact, the brothers ran off from the place.
How did that even happen in the presence of police officers?
Why did Vivaan do this to her? To her husband? To Abhir. Abhir didn't deserve this. Not at all. Harsh despised and had grudges with Vaanya since the starting, then why did the two brothers targetted the innocent one here?
Why was it Abhir?
Just why?
But when Vaanya's ears finally lost the tinnitus sounds, and her hearing was aided by natural means, Abhir's growls met her eardrums, gathering her all the attention towards him.
"Vaanu- u- va-" Abhir breathed.
Breathed harshly. Even harshly when his bleared vision couldn't scan any movements in Vaanya's position or body language.
Why isn't she moving? What is she doing?
"Vaan-"
"Abhi," she breathed. A tear fell down her eyes as she realised, nothing mattered more than him right now. His life. His heart. His breathing. His consciousness. His liveliness.
His lifeline.
He is the one who needs her the more right now, rather than those criminal brothers.
"Abhi," Vaanya ran towards him.
Sliding down on the ground like a stuntman, she pulled up his head, and gently placed it on her lap, as tears continuously swayed from her tear duct.
"Abhi, Abhi you'll be fine, I won't let anything happen to you, like you didn't let anything happen to me," she smiled through her heart eyes.
Caressing his cheek, she tried to stop his bleeding from all the three spots where he was shot. But she fell short of hands.
She felt miserable. She felt helpless for not being able to stop his bleeding from all the points at the same time.
And for the first time she wished to have multiple hands, unlike a human.
"I wish I was a monkey right now, so I could place all my hands on all your wounds, and also caress your face," she chuckled while crying simultaneously, making Abhir laugh at her senseless words.
"Wh- wh- why- do- do you think- I'd- I'd marry a lemur?" Abhir smiled, but his expressions were painful, that ached her heart.
She turned around to look for help, and the guards who came running down from the bunglow, along with Revanth, who was calling an ambulance, and getting ready with their cars for their protection on the way.
Vaanya tilts down her neck to be closer to his face, with a pretentious smile on her lips, because only she knew how hard it was to not cry in front of him right now.
Abhir tried to lift up his bloody hand from the ground, that was just lying like it's a wooden log on the floor, and not a hand. That's how lifeless his entire body looked like. And Vaanya's heart was crushing every second seeing him in pain.
"D- do you- lo- love- m-"
"Oh, shut up, Abhi. Do you really wanna hear a damn love confession in this situation?" She suppressed her worry in a thin line with her lips tightly sealed, but her eyes still poured out.
She kept caressing his hair and cheeks all the time. Just her futile attempts of trying to lessen his pain with these small gestures of affection.
Revanth after calling the ambulance ran towards the couple, sliding down opposite to Vaanya, as he took off his shirt and coat to tie it around Abhir's wounds.
"Sir, sir you'll be fine," Revanth sniffed while bandaging Abhir's shoulder.
But Abhir laughed instead. Wiping off his tears, Abhir pulled up his dead arm to tap Revanth's cheek twice with a chuckle.
"You are cryin- crying- bro- bro?" He released a breath after speaking. It was getting hard and harder to breath every second, but Abhir was just containing it all till he could, and spend more time with his loved ones, because he didn't know if it was the last time.
He turned his face towards Vaanya, finally able to see her face evidently as she wiped off his eyes, while hers were bloated in tears.
"My wifey,"
He called out with a smile. Vaanya had all ears for him. Caressing his cheek, and her other hand in his hair locks, she nodded, pressing her lips tightly to not cry and just hear him speak whatever he wanted.
"I love you,"
Abhir confessed, and both Vaanya and Revanth silently cursed themselves for not being able to help the wounded man on the ground.
"I too love you, Abhi,"
She suppressed her weeping, although she wanted to sit, scream, and cry aloud. As loud as she could manage. And for as long as her throat gives up. Her vocal cords are damaged. She wanted to shout out so loud, that God could hear her. Hear her, and help her. Help Abhir. Help them.
"I really love you, I love you so much, please stay with me. I can't live without you, Abhi. I can't. I really can't anymore. And I guess..."
She sniffed, wiping off her tears to look straight in his orbs, but his smile was breaking her heart rather than supporting her to stay strong. His eyes were glistering as if he has stars twinkling in them. And his was so calm today, like he could feel no pain anymore.
"I guess... I always liked you. Yeah, I did fight with you all the time initially, I hated you for not listening to me. I hated you when I was the guilty one to throw ink on you when I saw you with Aira. I hated you because I felt guilty for calling you a molester, who turned out to be such a nice man. I always thought, that I don't like you, because I was guilty towards you, and never even apologized to you for calling you a molester, and behaving in a certain way with you all the time before our marriage,"
She sniffed, her fingertips now feeling the chilliness of his body, indicating that he's falling more weak by every passing second.
"But you know what? I always liked you for a man you turned out to be the next day when I was charged guilty for accusing you for Aira's pain. I always adored your calmness, your nature, your behaviour with females around you. I was just so embarassed all that time, that I could never gather the courage to thank you, and also apologise to you for what I did,"
She slightly smiled, but her eyes were only looking in his, and hoping to God that he stays alive.
He stays with her. All her life. This can't be their end.
"I loved your gesture, when you came to hold me at the suicide point the next day, when I ran to the crime scene after Aira's death, and you supported me. Hugged me. Soothed me down. Helped me warm up. And literally sat down with me for hours in our university campus when I was trying to adjust with the news of my best friend's suicide. I think..."
She gulped, wiping off the sweat that was slowly appearing on his face, making his hair stick to his forehead.
"I think your kindness that day really turned all my guilty into a forever's regret, for calling you a molester, and behaving rudely with you, when you literally sat down quietly, right next to me for hours, just being a sense to me that I wasn't alone there,"
Her tears were back again as she reminisced all those memories.
"I regret that I could never thank you for saving Aira that night. And I'm guilty for still distrusting you on the day of our marriage, when I questioned you about Aira. I'm sorry Abhi," she cried, attaching her forehead with his.
A tear directly fell on his eyelashes from her eyes, making him smile brighter at her unanticipated revelation.
"V- va- Vaanya- I- you- yo-" but as he tried to speak, they could hear the ambulance resounding in the silent area.
The guards came all attentive and ready to save their boss' life.
Vaanya gazed up at Revanth, and he nodded to get all the doctor's teams ready for Abhir's operation.
The ward boys came running towards Abhir, helping him up, and making him lie down on the stretcher.
"One can come with him in the ambulance," a ward boys said, and Vaanya quickly hopped inside, holding Abhir's hand in hers as a sister made him wear the oxygen mask.
Abhir gazed at Vaanya with a smile, indicating her that it'll all be fine, and they'll soon be together again.
